What Causes Pain In The Upper Abdomen?

I started having pain in my upper abdomen, both sides, Saturday night. I thought it was something I ate. It is now Tuesday and the pain has gotten worse. Feels like knives stabbing me. Hurts worse as I take breaths. Also feels like my insides are twisted. I started running a temp this morning but have kept it down with Alieve. No vomiting but some nausea, from pain, and no real loss of appetite. Gallbladder has been removed. Should I be worried?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

You may be having gastritis or acid peptic disease. You can take antacids (over the counter) medications like Tab. Pantop once a day and Gelusil syrup thrice a day. Avoid eating spicy, oily food. Take little food at frequent intervals. Breakfast around 8 am, small snack at 11 am, lunch at 1 pm, small snack at 4 pm and dinner at 8 pm. Do not smoke, take alcohol or tobacco and even excess of coffee and tea. Do not take much of stress. Stress aggravates gastritis.
If the condition is persisting even after two or three days of following this then consult a doctor. Chest x ray, abdominal USG and some blood tests may be needed to find out what is the condition.
