What Causes Pain In The Upper Abdominal Area?

I am having pain in my upper stomach area. Thought it might be my Hyattle Hernia so used Tums for 3 hours. No relief so prayed to throw up with no success. I have an iron stomach. To relieve the pain I took 2 advill. It has dulled the pain but not gone. I was afraid of my lungs because the pain radiates into my back. All of the pain is located under my rib cage. You must know I am 72 yrs. old and have a Lung Decease called Sjogren. I take cell ceft and prednisone. To my knowledge as I take deep breaths I do not think it is my lungs, however I would like to know what has caused me to have so much pain. Of course it is Saturday morning and the clinic is closed for the weekend. The ER would be my only alternative but would like to prevent that if possible. Please tell me how I can determine if it is my gall bladder?

Hi,

By what you say I feel that it might be a referred pain from the lungs and as the pain is getting better with Ibuprofen you may not require an emergency room. But if it still persisting after 48 hours by Monday you might require a physician's consult please.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
