What Causes Pain In The Upper Back After Lung Surgery?

I had half a lung removed in 2010 and soon after I started to have pain in mid back on the same exact spot. I recently started seeing a pain Doctor. He gave me injections in my back which did not help and then as a last resort he gave me a nerve block and that didn t help so I m on medication now which works but leaves me loopy. Can you help me? General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Although I am not able to find out the indication for lung removal, but the pain seems to be due to nerve issues.

Either the nerve is injured or is entrapped in the intervertebral disc somewhere. The exact cause can be known only after imaging.

I suggest you to go for radiological examination and nerve conduction studies for proper cause and location of the pathology. After that only, proper treatment can be discussed.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Maninder, General & Family Physician
