What Causes Pain In The Upper Back After Recovering From Cough?

I am recovery from a cold and upper respiratory infection. Last evening I began having a very sharp pains in the upper part of my back, it hurts when I cough or breathe. Could I have a pulled muscle from coughing or could it be something more serious? Thanks

Hi,

If you have no breathing difficulty, this looks less likely to be any serious thing.

This possibly may be a pulled muscles or sometimes pleurisy which may occur with a respiratory infection. Either of them is not serious until you feel short of breath or too much sick.

You can use hot compression and some painkiller like ibuprofen for a few days for it. See your doctor if things don't get better.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
