What Causes Pain In The Upper Back And Chest While On Nitrofurantoin?
I m taking nitrofurantoin for a bladder infection., 4 1/2 days now. During the night I developed a sharp pain in my upper back, chest on the right side, which is quite painful when i take a deep breathe. is that a side effect and should I cease taking it?

Nitrofurantoin does not cause back pain as a side effect. It may be due to something else. Most probably it may be a musculoskeletal pain. As a first line of management you can take analgesics like Acetaminophen or Ibuprofen for pain relief. If symptoms persist, you can consult a physician and get evaluated.
