What Causes Pain In The Upper Thighs?

Hi, I m a 61 yr old woman, always physically active, living a rural life style. Lately I have had pain in my upper thighs, especially the right, when I rise from a sitting position. I take extra strength Tylenol but don t want to over do it. Any ideas?

Hi. There can be various cause for upper thigh and hip pain including injury, infection of the hip joint (if you feel pain in the hip joint), vascular problems, etc. But usually, the pain in the upper thigh area can be due to minor or major injuries or strain which sometimes even go unnoticed. If the pain is severe and is not improving in a day or so with rest and pain medication then it is a good idea to see the local doctor who may examine and do certain tests to evaluate. For the pain relief, either of over the counter painkillers like Ibuprofen, Paracetamol and Diclofenac may be sufficient within the safe standard dose especially taken after meals. Rest and warm compresses can also help.
