Unfortunately it sounds like you might have a
urinary tract infection. Occasionally during surgery, they will drain your bladder with a catheter to keep it out of the way. During catheterization, they can introduce unwanted bacteria into the bladder which can cause symptoms like you are having. You can call your surgeon to let them know about your symptoms which will need to be treated with antibiotics. Usually no lab testing is necessary if there is high likelihood. In the meantime, you can increase your fluid intake, try cranberry juice or cranberry tablets if you have
diabetes, and Azo which is a
over the counter medication that helps with symptomatic relief. Common symptoms are:
• Burning during urination
• Pain during urination (
dysuria)
• Urgency (sensation of need to urinate often)
• Frequency
• Sensation of incomplete bladder emptying
• Blood in urine
• Lower
abdominal pain or cramping
• Offensive odor of urine
• Nocturia
• Sudden onset of urinary incontinence
• Dyspareunia
• Suprapubic tenderness
• Urethral and/or vaginal tenderness
• Fever or costovertebral angle tenderness indicates upper UTI.
