What Causes Pain In The Wrist Upon Movements?

I fell on my right wrist 36 hours ago and it hurts on the ulnar side when I outwardly rotate it very far, and I experience pain on the top of my wrist with flexion and extension. The pain is not very severe but it prevents me from putting weight on it, playing the piano, or lifting things up without it hurting. What should I do?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi! I have gone through your question and i understand your concern.
If i were your treating doctor i would do a X ray of your wrist to make sure that you dont have any bone fractures .

According to the symptoms you describe i would say that you may have inflamacion of the tissues around your wrist ,we call it tendonitis .This condition often occurs during the fells.
If you have anny numbness of your fingers it shows that you may have Carpal syndrome tunnel this also occurs in these injures .
I would give you some advises :
_Put some ice on your wrist regulary for the next 24 hours.
-Keep the wrist in a resting position as much as possible. You may need also to immobilize.
-Take some Ibuprofen 400mg 3 x day , will help the pain and the inflamacion.
If the symptoms persist and interfere with your day-to-day activites for more then a few days.

Thank you for using HCM
Wish you good health.
