What Causes Pain In Throat While Yawning?

i am just recovering from what was first diagnosed on may 16 as an upper resp infection. was given amoxicillin,, a steroid, and something for cough, which, after a week did nothing. went back to the doctor was told i had acute bronchitis and was prescribed a stronger antibiotic. after a week i felt better but NOW i am left with the inability to fully yawn without the back of my throat hurting thus stopping the yawn, and it feels like there is something stuck in the back of my throat behind where my tonsil would be. ( tonsils removed as child ) i am concerned as i have never had this before. i wonder if i was misdiagnosed and this is the result of strep ..... i have never been this sick ; it is my understanding that not all people have visible symptoms of strep; i was exposed to strep shortly before i started feeling sick.

Hello,

Pain in the throat while yawning or swallowing may be an indication of bacterial infection, tonsillitis, esophagitis, pharyngitis, recurrent infection, some lump or growth, etc.

You are suggested to take semi solid food like oats meal, porridge, custard, khichri, etc. so that your throat muscle is not strained.

Avoid talking, give voice rest. Rinse your mouth & gargle your throat with warm salt water.

Get clinically examined by an ENT surgeon. You will have to get few investigations & imaging tests to detect the pathology causing you discomfort.

You should get swab & sputum tests also done. You will be treated accordingly. In the meantime, you can take acetaminophen, one sos after taking food to ease discomfort.

You can also take PPIs to reduce discomfort due to acidity or gastritis. If lump is detected you may have to get a biopsy done.

You will be given conservative treatment with surgery if required if tonsillitis is detected. Avoid addictions if any.

Hope I have answered your queries. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
