Hello,
Pain in the throat while yawning or swallowing may be an indication of bacterial infection,
tonsillitis,
esophagitis,
pharyngitis, recurrent infection, some lump or growth, etc.
You are suggested to take semi solid food like oats meal, porridge, custard, khichri, etc. so that your throat muscle is not strained.
Avoid talking, give voice rest. Rinse your mouth & gargle your throat with warm salt water.
Get clinically examined by an ENT surgeon. You will have to get few investigations & imaging tests to detect the pathology causing you discomfort.
You should get swab & sputum tests also done. You will be treated accordingly. In the meantime, you can take
acetaminophen, one sos after taking food to ease discomfort.
You can also take PPIs to reduce discomfort due to acidity or
gastritis. If lump is detected you may have to get a biopsy done.
You will be given conservative treatment with surgery if required if tonsillitis is detected. Avoid addictions if any.
Hope I have answered your queries. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
