What Causes Pain In Thumbs And Index Finger During Pregnancy?

Hello, I am a 22 year old female who is also 41 weeks pregnant. I am having converns that for the past week I have had trouble making a fist with my dominant hand or even gripping things. It is very painful to simply move my digits - all except for my thumbs and sometimes my index finger. Should I go to the hospital or wait until my doctor s appointment later on in the week?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Your symptoms seem to be related to a muscle cramp. This condition is very common during pregnancy. I suggest using anti-inflammatory medications such as Acetaminophen to relieve the symptoms. I also suggest using cold compresses to relieve the pain.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
