I am 5 weeks pregnant and I have been getting pain in my lower left side (near my ovary). At times it is a dull pain and at other times it is a sharp pain. However, it is there a lot of the time. I have no other symptoms and feel fine apart form this.
It is normal to have a cyst on your ovary in early pregnancy. Your ovary produces hormones to support the pregnancy in a type of cyst called a corpus luteum cyst. A cyst is just a fluid-filled space, it does not mean anything harmful, but it can cause twinges of pain once and a while. The corpus luteum usually disappears after the first trimester.
However rarely a pregnancy that is located in the tube or near the ovary, called an ectopic pregnancy, can also cause pain on one side during pregnancy. However most women with abnormal pregancies also have bleeding.
So if you have severe pain or if it is associated with vaginal bleeding and/or right shoulder pain, you should see a doctor. Orherwise it is likely a corpus luteum cyst, which is not harmful
