What Causes Pain On Back Of The Head From The Ear To The Neck?
I was taking a shower, and suddenly I felt pain and discomfort on back of my head. It ran like from two inches from m behind my right ear and down right side of my neck. I touched behind the ear and it is tender and a bump and the right side of my neck a little tender. It is a discomfort right now..like I feel bump with out touching
I can understand your concern. The area you have mentioned behind ear contains lymph nodes. These lymph nodes enlarge if there is infection in the ear or TMJ (Temporomandibular Joint).
I would advise you to start antibiotics such as Cefixime 200 mg (Topcef) twice a day for 5 days. The infection in either ear or TMJ should be eliminated with course of this medicine. You can take OTC painkillers for relief in pain.
However, if the pain persists after 5 days, I would advise you to visit an ENT specialist for clinical examination of the ear and further investigations. If there is no infection in the ear, then oral & maxillofacial surgeon should be consulted for the examination of the ear.
I hope this information helps you. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. I wish you feel better soon.
Best, Dr. Viraj Shah
