Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Pain On Lower Side Of Kneecap And Swelling Above Kneecap?
I had no noticeable injury...just a gravel sound extending the knee, then suddenly swelling above the kneecap, and pain on the medial lower side of the kneecap. Symptoms have reduced slightly using ice for 48 hours, then an ice/heat contrast for the last few days.
It is difficult to give a definite answer without knowing your complete history. However, given your symptoms, infections of bones and joints, Bursitis, or cellulitis are important concerns. So please follow up with your primary provider as early as possible for the necessary evaluation. Initiating early treatment with antibiotics is important if there is an underlying infection.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Lekshmi Rita Venugopal, General & Family Physician
