What Causes Pain On The Back Of The Knee?

Iamb one on bone in my right knee. Now I am having lots of pain on the back of the knee. After sitting and I get up and go to take a step it is so hard for a couple of steps then it gets easier. Is this just part of the bone on bone or is it something else?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Pain at the back of the knee could be due to arthritis, cramps of legs, Baker's cyst, ligament injury, calf strain, tendonitis, Meniscus tear etc.

I advice you to:
- Rest, don't strain the knee (to bare body weight)
- Keep ice pack
- Compression bandage (not too tight)
- Elevate the injured knee (with pillows)
- Analgesics
- Xray of right knee to find out the underlying pathology if any
- Blood investigations to assess the levels of ASO, CRP, RA factors.
- Consult your doctor for further assistance.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Yogapriya Vasudevan, General & Family Physician
