What Causes Pain On The Left Side Of The Mouth After A Concussion?

I was in a car accident and I got a concussion as a result, but a day or two afterwards the left side of my mouth started becoming extremely painful. It was mainly the left side of my teeth, well I say that cuz I would feel the pain whenever I'd try to chew something on that side. Finally I got smart enough to look at the inside of my mouth and I noticed the roof of my mouth was dark from a bruise. Now that it's been a few more days since the wreck and the bruise is beginning to go away.. it's become a yellowish color, but the soreness hasn't gotten any better. It still hurts really bad to chew, blow my nose, or anything else to do with my mouth. For instance when you have something in between your teeth you know how you blow air in between the two teeth.. well if I attempt to do that it hurts so bad it feels like my ears and head are going to explode. Oh yeah and my ear drum ruptured along with the concussion from the wreck. So what's going on with my mouth and what caused that bruise on my roof?

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

It is injury to the jaw joint and can be hairline fracture to the alveolar bone that supports the teeth in case if the teeth are also loose..
Bruising of the roof of mouth is due to trauma that is causing ruptured blood vessels and accumulation of blood into the soft tissues causing hematoma formation..
You should get a Panoramic x Ray done to rule out the cause of the pain as it will involve radiography of your jaw bones as well as teeth..
Any fracture or dislocation of jaw joint has to be checked for and the diagnosis has to be confirmed..
As of now to relieve pain take over the counter painkillers like Ibuprofen or Naproxen and take soft diet..
Bruised should be left as it is as it will subside gradually on its own..

Hope this helps..

Regards .
