Hi Dr. Prasad: About 10 days ago I developed pain, redness and swelling around the R big toe nail primarily on the medial side of the nail. It initially felt like an ingrown nail. I have had a history of periodic, synovial cysts in my fingernails that presented with the same symptoms that my toenail has now. I first treated the toenail as an infection with warm soaks, use of hydrogen peroxide, gauze& bacitracin etc. There were no signs of pus etc. The peroxide and bacitracin began to inflame the area and seemed to aggravate it so I stopped it. The skin subsequently appeared red and felt burned and it began peeling. For the last week since stopping the peroxide etc, the medial side of the toe nail has been oozing a clear fluid that resembles the fluid that comes out of a punctured surface blister. It then bleeds and forms a scab. When I clean the area, I can see what looks like a cyst trying to break through the medial nail fold edge. The pressure feeling remains there and there are no signs of spreading redness or pain.It has remain localized. After a week of just daily warm soaks in sterile water, I still have pressure, pain and redness along the entire nail now. I have had no fever nor other symptoms. Should I see my primary care for evaluation? The last fingernail cyst that was like this one resolved on its own. Thanks for your help
