What Causes Pain, Swelling And Redness Around The Sting Site?

I was stung on the back of my leg over 7 hours ago. I have had an allergic reaction before. There is swelling, heat and pain from the stings. I have taken an antihistamine and am applying a hydrocortisone cream but nothing is stopping the swelling/hives. I didn t want to go to the ER if I don t have to. Not having breathing problems.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that you have an intense allergic reaction leading to swelling or hives and there is a possibility that you have still got the stinger embedded into the skin which is releasing the toxin still leading to swelling..
You need to consult a Physician and get evaluated and he can inspect the site of sting and remove the stinger if present and also advise you Oral as well as injectable antihistamines or anti allergics and steroids to relieve the allergic symptoms soon..
You can also do cold compresses and continue applying Steroid ointment..

ope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
