What Causes Pain/swelling In Arms After Lump Removal From Chest?

I am a male 42 year old, in 1993 I had lumps removed from my chest. I read that lymph nodes are also removed when lumps are removed, and they have recently discovered that it causes major pain and swelling in the arms. I have had terrible pain in my arm, especially my right arm /elbow down to my wrist. Could they have take the lymph nodes out & that is causing my pain?
