Yesterday, my mom went to a graduation party and started to get an itching feeling in her throat. By the time she got home it was worst so she took some dimetapp. A few hours later she awoke because her throat was closing, her neck was really swollen and it hurt to swallow. She went to the ER and the doctor gave her an epi shot, but it didn't work. So he said it was a viral allergic reaction to something but he wasn't really sure.(We don't know what a viral allergic reaction is.) He also said she doesn't have strep. It is still very swollen and very sore. He put her on some pain medication and sent her home but it doesn't seem to be working. Do you know what could cause her throat to hurt and swell up so quickly? Is there anything she can do to ease the swelling or soothe her sore throat quickly?
