What Causes Pain That Accompanies The Crackling Sounds In Knee?

I am a soon to be 43 year old woman with Rheumatoid arthritis and Sjogrens disease. I have many issues from pain and stiffness to fatigue and difficulty concentrating. One of my biggest problems has been with my right knee. I first started out with pain in the knee with some stiffness every now and again. I had an x-Ray and they stated there was osteoarthritis in my knees. Both. Since that x-Ray I have had several injections for the pain. Well, the last couple of months I have been dealing with fluid in that right knee. I ve had the fluid drained one time. Then swelling. Now I am dealing with literally cracking in my knee. Every time I take a step there is this horrid crack that is extremely painful. I forgot to mention my Dr sent me to therapy to see if it would help alleviate some of the problems in my knee. It helps....temporarily. This cracking is now daily and constantly. I m scheduled for an MRI soon. What could be the problem? I m very frustrated.
