What Causes Pain Under Sternum After Gallbladder Removal?
I am vomiting and have had my gall bladder removed 7 years ago. I have pain directly under my sternum, however vomiting brings me relief from the pain. How can I get the pain and vomiting to stop? I have been to a family doctor for this many times in the last 7 years, but they can not give me any answers.
These symptoms may be because of underlying medical conditions like gastritis, acid reflux, peptic ulcer, IBS, gastro-esophageal syndrome, nerve entrapment, or the like. Get clinically examined and get treated the medical conditions that is causing you symptoms. You can take antacids and PPIs, to help get relieve from the symptoms. Prefer to take boiled food over fried, oily, spicy food.
Get blood tests and imaging tests done to rule out or detect formation of new gall stones or presence of residual stones that may be causing symptoms. Your treatment will depend on the pathology detected and the severity of the symptoms. Take anti emetics to control vomiting. Take small meals multiple times a day. Take well cooked food that is easily digestible.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
