What Causes Pain Under The Finger Nails?

Hi, I am curious about a pain that I have under my fingernails (currently middle finger and pinky, usually pinky or ring finger). It happens regularly (maybe 2 times a month) where I wake up with one or two fingers that hurt. It feels like there is pressure and the pain is most intense when I push on the fingernail. It s nothing terrible but I am very curious about what it is and if I can do something about it! Thanks, Lisa
