What Causes Pain Under The Left Rib Cage?

Hi. I sometimes get a weird pain, right under my ribs, on the left side, when I sit, or move in certain positions. It always seems to happen when I sit on the floor and lean forward. I thought it was maybe a hernia, because something seems to push up from under my skin, and I feel like I have to push it back in. I have been checked by a couple of doctors, though, and they say I do not have a hernia? What could it be? It feels like my intestines are tying themselves in a knot, and I have to push on them to ease the pain, or stand up, to straighten them out, to make the pain go away. I am 60 yrs old and about 30 lbs overweight, but don t smoke, or drink, and always try to eat healthy. I recently had a colonoscopy, and got a bill of clean health, there.

Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hello,

Pain in the left rib cage may be due to left lower lobe pneumonia or pleurisy or splenomegaly or splenic flexure syndrome or hepatitis or left colon disease etc.

Until examination is done it is difficult to say what it is. Use tablet pantoprazole before breakfast for one week. Please get it done ultrasound abdomen and upper GI endoscopy. Avoid spicy food and alcohol.

Avoid caffeinated drinks and freeze water. If symptoms not improved please consult your doctor he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
