My son is 37 years old and on dialysis. He is complaining of pain under his left breast and it extends around to the side. He is burping a great deal. He states that when he lay down the pain gets worst. He is over weight, but has been loosing for the past two weeks. I want to take him to the emergency room at UAB, but he do not want to go. What should I do?
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have pain under the rib cage of a dialysis patient . Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like liver damage , kidney stone , kidney infection , pancreatitis , angina , pinched nerve or gastric problem . I would suggest you to consult nephrologist as well as cardiologist for condition like angina for proper diagnosis . Doctor may order kidney function test , CT scan or ultrasound . Doctor may refer you to gastroenterologist for liver or pancreas problem or cardiologist for angina . Apply warm compresses on rib cage . Cardiologist may order ECG , TMT along with complete blood profile . For now eat light , quit drinking , take ibuprofen or acetaminophen for pain and take proper rest . For now do proper rest and do not exert your body .
