What Causes Pain Under The Ribcage On The Left Side?

I have terrible pain in my left side right under my Rib cage and it also hurts through to my back. I have had this for almost two weeks and it is getting worse. Extreme sharp pain when I cough or move. If I stay still it only hurts when I breathe deep. What is wrong with me?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Your symptoms could be due to lung pathology (pleuritis, bronchitis) pancreatitis, gastric cause (gastritis, esophagitis), pericarditis. I would suggest to consult internal medicine specialist as early as possible and undergo clinical examination, blood tests (CBC, ESR, CRP, Amylase), chest X ray, USG scan and endoscopy if needed.

Specific treatment will depend on the cause. Meanwhile take Tablet ibuprofen, and Tablet pantoprazole. lTake soft diet, avoid exertion, and take bed rest.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Sagar
