What Causes Pain Under The Ribcage On The Right Side?

A lot of constant discomfort bordering on pain that is on the right side. I feel it mostly when sitting down. Feeling is mostly under the right rib cage or on the lower right side. Believe it is related to the large intestine but am wondering if this type of discomfort warrants a colonoscopy or if it would possibly be related to lack of good bacteria in the colon.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

With such presentations in my clinic, I would first rule out gallstones which is very common in this area and to confirm it I may advise you to do an ultrasound first and if confirmed you need to visit a general surgeon in your area and treatment is surgical methods only.

If report is negative second alternative is gastrointestinal tract origin and to confirm it I may suggest you to do an endoscopy examination by a gastroenterologist and treatment depend upon exact findings.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Uday Nath Sahoo
