What Causes Pain Upon Exertion On The Second Toe Upon Injury?

I was playing tennis last night, and while running for a ball, I felt a pop in my right foot at the base of my second toe. I can walk on it with pain, but going up onto my toes is very painful. What is the possible injury and do I need to seek medical attention?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Your history suggests that you might have had an avulsion injury or sprain of the ligament of your second toe. You would better consult an orthopedician who would help to differentiate the conditions and manage accordingly. If it is just a sprain few days of rest and painkillers would help. If its an avulsion injury, conservative management or a very small surgical procedure might be needed.

Hope I have addressed your concerns. If you still have anything else to know please do not hesitate.

Regards,
Muralidhar Naiduk
