Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi When i blow my nose with any extra force the right side of my face and head slowly starts to ache until after about 1/2 hr i have a strong painful ache eminating out from behind my right eye socket ( & back ) down to my right jaw , also my teeth on the right side , top and bottom go knumb which lasts for up to 12 -16 hrs before completely going away .. The head ache / pain goes away after about 4 - 6 hrs ..with the use of Ibruprofan ( up to 800 mg ) . I went to see a Dr. back in Jan of this year who did a sinus check and then i had an MRI which only showed a small cyst in the sinus area which they said was not of concern & was not the reason for the pain , so they had no answers except to try not to blow my nose hard ..I have had a cold for the last few days & have had to blow my nose & so I have been experiencing this condition again .. Do you have any ideas ? Is this something you have ever heard of ? Many Thanks James
Thank you for your query Every individual is unique. Although everyone has the same basic structure, the overlying tissues vary slightly. There are several nerves running throughout the face and some provide common sensory supply to all the areas you specified. Blowing your nose causes a lot of force and induces pain along those nerves.
If you have a cold and you need to low your nose, try steam inhalation to moisten and loosen the secretion . Stay well hydrated also goes a,long way to prevent thick secretions for which you strain by blowing your nose hard to get it out. Hope this helps If you need any clarification, I'd be happy to help Wish you good health
