Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have suffered moderate to severe pain around my tailbone for months now. One day when I was in tear-jerking agony, my husband massaged the area. He found many knots in the area. The massage was excruciating but I felt a few hours of relief following it. What could be causing this?
Knots or lumps around the coccyx is commonly pilonidal cyst. It may form a lump containing skin debris. If pilonidal cysts become infected and form abscess, they may need to get drained or surgically removed. Sometimes when bone spurs in the coccyx pinch the area and cause pain and discomfort.
It may cause muscle spasm and painful inflammation. You can take pain relieving medications and also use pain relieving balms or sprays. You are suggested to get clinically examined by a GP to detect the pathology causing the discomfort so that it can be treated accordingly.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
