What Causes Painful, Abscess Filled Pimples On Body?

Hi. I m a 27 yr old female, in good health. With the past couple weeks I ve been developing little abscess looking pimples on my body. Ive had two on my belly, one on my leg and one on my finger. They get to be very swollen and painful and eventually get a nasty head on them until they pop. Why am I all of a sudden getting these?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

These seem to be folliculitis. This is an infection of the root of the hair. You can use local warm compresses and local over the counter antibiotic cream (mupirocin or fusidic acid) 3 times a day. Try to not pop them as this may cause the infection to spread and more pimples come out. If you are not better with these or you notice any worsening, please see your doctor.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General & Family Physician
