What Causes Painful And Sensitive Area On Left Side Of Abdomen And Back?

Hi, I have had a very painful area of my skin on the left side of my abdomen for many weeks. There is no rash or visual indication at all. It is very sensitive to the touch of clothing. I also have a painful area on my back (left side) which seems to be between my ribs. I have read about shingles without a rash and it seems the symptoms are similar to this. I have had two attackes of cold sores in recent months after not having the problem for years I am aged 67 and male Can you give me an opinion please?

Pathologist and Microbiologist 's  Response
Hello,

Shingles is associated with severe pain in distribution of nerve root in dermatome especially in chest region between ribs. I suggest you to consult your primary healthcare provider for clinical assessment and thus diagnosis. Shingles is managed by pain killers and anti-viral drugs.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shailja Puri, Pathologist and Microbiologist
