What Causes Painful Blood Clot In Lower Leg Post Injury?

I fell out of bed about eight months ago and I have no idea what I may have hit my leg on but a very large hematoma developed on the front of my leg to the interior part. I have been scanned twice for DVT and they were both normal, I have also had an ultrasound on the vericoise veins behind my knees which showed there is still fluid blood in my leg. I am now experiencing pain in the middle part of my leg in the front when I am lying on the bed and I lift it up. It is a dull aching pain. I am getting ready for a knee replacement in September.but I don t think the two are related. Could a fracture of any kind have happened and it was missed?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

I feel you might have muscular or ligamental injury seems to be a soft tissue injury without any vascular involvement (as per your reports) and bone injury will not allow movements as you already are having. The final diagnosis would be after MRI of the area followed by consultation of your operating surgeon to decide about your planned surgery and also specific management of your present problem. Till then avoid painful movements / cold pack would help / no massage till advised after direct examination. Over the counter pain pill like Ibuprofen would help.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
