What Causes Painful Boil On The Clitoris?

I have an EXTREMELY painful boil (I think thats what it is b/c there is no head like a pimple) on my clitoris. I have been putting hot compresses on it since it appeared yesterday and it has only gotten worse today. It is so painful I cannot even put my legs together w/out shooting pain. I am a very healthy 46 year old woman who hardly ever has any issues (knock on wood). I have also taken several hot showers to help. I do not know what else to do. Tomorrow morning I will call my gynecologist but is there anything else I can do tonight. I currently have bacitracin on a guaze pad that I placed in my panties on the sensitive area.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As per my clinical experience, a severely painful boil on clitoris indicates abscess in follicle most likely. Till you meet your gynec specialist, following measures will help you:
- Sitz bath (sitting in tub with lukewarm water added epsom salt)
- Continue Bacitracin over gauze
- Anti-inflammatory medications such as Diclofeanc, Ibuprofen or others after meals
- Avoid sexual intercourse if active
- Control of blood sugar
- Avoid tight jeans and undergarments

Depending upon the OBGYN evaluation, you may need antibiotics with or without surgical intervention of I & D.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
