What Causes Painful Bruise And Swelling On Feet?

I fell down the stairs at work two weeks ago and I got a nice bump from it. It bruised, but the bruise is gone now but it s still hurts especially if I sit on it right and it still swells up after being on my feet for a long time. Should I be concerned about it?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Bruising is common with even mild injury. But severe pain, swelling or bleeding from bruises should be treated immediately. Any small fractures or severe soft tissue swelling should be ruled out.

I would suggest you to rule out any fractures. X-ray foot Ap and Lateral views should be taken to be on the safer side. Pain killers and hot compress can provide early pain relief.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Saranya Ramadoss, General & Family Physician
