Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a history of skin cancer. I noticed a what I thought was a bruise on my buttocks (with no knowledge of how it got there) I few days later it was burning and hurting. then the bruise was gone, but my tissue was indented. Then a couple of days later the area looked really dry and the skin also had the glossy abnormal look. While investigating it, I was pushing on the indentation, where I can clearly feel a loss of tissue, and now it is bruised again. Any thoughts??
Usually, indentation on buttocks may be due to any trauma by fall etc., or by some injection or vaccination at the site. This trauma will cause the death of tissue cells particularly fat cells. These dead fat cells create a gap in the area and hence, an indentation. Sometimes due to pressure, fat cells may relocate in the surrounding space and hence, create a space gap.
After sometime, this indentation can be healed or minimized due to redistribution of fat from the surrounding area. However, this may leave a considerable gap and hence, a permanent indentation. The treatment may be done by fat cell grafting. Fat cells can be taken by liposuction from abdomen or waist. Overlying scar tissue may also have to be released by multiple incisions in the scar tissue.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
