Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
For a couple of days my tailbone started to hurt and i couldn t move as much, but soon after i realised there was a bump near the tailbone area in between my bum cheeks on the left, but not near the anus. My tailbone stopped hurting and it was just the bump that is very painful. I am unable to sit properly or sleep on my back. What is it and is it serious?
Hi! Welcome to HCM. I appreciate your concern for the painful bump in the tail bone area.
Incomplete data like age, gender, occupation (job involving prolonged sitting), any discharge, bowel habits, body weight, etc.br>The features described in your query are suggestive of some inflammatory or infective swellings like boil, abscess or an infected pilonidal sinus which needs to be confirmed by clinical examination by a surgeon.
A Pilonidal cyst is located near the tailbone at the top of the cleft of the buttocks it appears be due to hairs that puncture the skin and then become embedded & it has a tendency to cause infection on prolonged sitting.
You are advised to get examined by a surgeon for as it has to be surgically removed to prevent the recurrence.
Meanwhile take NSAID pain killers, sitz bath 2-3 times/day and keep the area dry and clean.
Best regards.
