What Causes Painful Cramps Around A Surgical Scar On The Back?

I had two surgerys on my spine approximately a year and a half ago. They went in under my rib cage for the first and through my back for the second. On and around my surgical scar on my side has become extremely sensitive, and occasionally, I will get an extremely painful cramp around the area. Could these cramps be because of the surgery?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Thank you for your query.

This could be due to scarring.
If the pain is severe and interfering with your routine, please see a doctor right away.

I recommend :
-a review with your surgeon
-an ultrasound of the affected area, a CT scan if required
-blood tests (complete blood count, blood sugar levels, kidney and liver function tests)

This is to check for Infections. Sometimes healing can cause nerve pain when the nerve in the area has started to function. Medications can help with these if severe.
Apply cool packs to see if this helps but please Get it checked out with your doctor first.
Hope this helps.
Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.
Wish you good health
