Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Painful Cramps In The Abdomen And Fatigue After A Bowel Movement?
Thinking i have IBS. I have been able to control it by limiting fat (I have no gall bladder) and eating healthy so I do not have constipation. In the last few months I have stopped drinking coffee which seemed to help. The last 2 weeks I have had a few episodes of painful cramping in my colon which is relieved when I have a BM. The BM varies in consistency. After the BM I am very fatigue and often must rest. This pain/fatigue cycle is not new but but these episodes have increased in frequency. I am keeping a diet log but since my bowel has been tender for the last (nearly) two weeks the log is not pointing to anything specific. Options for treatment?
The painful cramps are normal due to intestine wall stretching following bowel movement in particular segments where the mucosa is inflamed via IBS.
The fatigue is not usual and there can be a secondary deficiency of vitamins, minerals, proteins, iron or so forth, which must be corrected in lieu of better recovery.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
