What Causes Painful Cyst In The Breast?

I had a cyst in my breast that hurted. I was given an anti-biotic ( cephalexin) to treat it. Anyhow, I got a mamagram done and an ultrasound. My cyst is gone and so is the pain. They want me to has a core needle biopsy of the septation. But the cyst is completely gone. Why should I have a needle biopsy when there is no cyst or no pain?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

If the cyst has been treated, i think there is no need for biopsy. Moreover if the mammogram suggest a lesion of BIRADS stage 3 and above, only then biopsy is required.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
