Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Few days ago I started getting a painful swelling on my left buttock, I ve had it in the same spot before and the doctor said it was likely a sebaceous cyst. The previous one went away on its own but this new one started becoming too painful and I was getting fevers. Went to urgent Care and the doctor there diagnosed it as cellulitis and prescribed me bactrim along with a anti inflammatory medicine. It s been three full days since I ve started this antibiotic but the swelling has not gone down and I m still getting fever at night. Should I go back to urgent care and see if there s something else wrong?
Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic. I can understand your concern. Yes, you should definitely consult doctor again. Painful swelling, fever, not improving despite antibiotics etc are suggestive of abscess formation. So you need clinical examination. If it is abscess then surgical incision and drainage (I and D) is needed for complete cure. Also rule out diabetes as this kind of infections are common in diabetes. So consult your doctor again and discuss all these. Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
