Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am on several medications, post menopause and now sexual contact hurts due to dryness. I am on Lamictal, Keppra, singular, claritan, vitamin D, folic acid, fenofribrate, simvastin, vitamin b12. Are any of these medications causing or increasing the dryness making sexual contact / penetration painful?
Hi I think it is a postmenopausal effectvonly. Medicines which you are using can't be associated with this. You can use some lubricants like KY gelly. If it doesnt work, you have to take low dose hormones or local oestrogen cream for relieving the symptoms. Talk to your doctor regarding this. Hope it helps.
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. Painful intercourse during menopause is most likely caused due to vaginal mucosal dryness. Vaginal mucosa becomes dry due to decrease in number of mucous secreting glands and also becomes thin during menopause, which could affect having sexual activities. Kindly use water-based lubricants during intercourse to achieve good lubrication. Also, you can apply water-based moisturizer cream or lotion everyday at bedtime. In case the condition doesn't seem to improve, you may need to be evaluated and administered hormone replacement therapy. Kindly consult Gynecologist in such situation for proper evaluation and appropriate management. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best. Regards, Dr. Ashakiran.S., MBBS., MD.
