What Causes Painful Intercourse In Women?

I m a 27 year old woman who experiences significant pain during intercourse. This has become a real problem for me because my long time boyfriend naturally wants to have sex whereas I avoid it because of the pain. I ve talked to my GYN about it and she says there s nothing obviously wrong with me physically. What could be causing my problem?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Two main reasons for painful intercourse are either dryness of vagina or psychological fear of intercourse. Dryness can be due disease related or due to inadequate foreplay. Lubricants like KY jelly should be used during intercourse. For psychological fears, sex counselling should be sought by professionals. Local causes like any growth or polyp etc., should be ruled out.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Regards,
