Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband took a fall and may have hit his head. He had no memory fo what happened and was disoriented for about thirty minutes after the fall. He has a history of vaso-vagal causing uhim to pass out and that may have happened today as I heard him cough and then a crash. He s 65 years old, smokes, drinks and is overweight. He gets regular physical checkups and blood tests which have shown no abnormalities. He says he has pain in both jaws and he does have a lump on the back of his head on the left side.
I can understand your concern. It seems that your husband has injured Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) while he fell down. This is the joint near ear that helps in opening and closing of jaws along with side to side movements.
I would advise you to visit an oral and maxillofacial surgeon once for clinical examination of the TMJ along with the swelling on the back of the head. He might need to go for x-ray of the areas to rule out injury to the bones.
If he is in pain right now, he can take Ibuprofen 400 mg three times a day. Ice compressions over the swelling will help to reduce the swelling.
I hope this information helps you. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. I wish your husband recovers soon!
Best, Dr. Viraj Shah
