What Causes Painful Legs With History Of Total Thyroidectomy?

Had total thyroidectomy with 4 micro carcinomas now awaiting radioactive iodine treatment to get rid of any leftover cells. My legs are killing me! Back of thighs and sides of calves seem to tighten as I try to walk making walking nearly impossible! Does this mean my levels are ready for the radioactive iodine treatment? I sure hope so I m so forgetful & been off my hormones almost a month. Also had hypo parathyroidism after surgery & taking calcium & calcitrol daily.

Hello,

Probable causes of your leg pains are hypocalcemia due to hypo para-thyroidism, deep venous thrombosis or peripheral neuropathy. Your calcium supplements may not be adequate and that may be the cause of your muscle spasms or cramps.

Deep venous thrombosis requires immediate attention: A d- dimer blood test and duplex ultrasonography are helpful tools in diagnosis. You can take tab. Neurobion forte daily once for 3 months and tab. Evion-LC once daily for 3 months. They are helpful in muscle cramps due to peripheral neuropathy.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
