What Causes Painful Lump Above The Kneecap?

I hit my knee/leg on the ground and right above the kneecap I had a lump the size of a baseball. It s been over two weeks and the lump is down to the size of a golf ball. No problem walking around but when I bend my knee and stretch the lump it s very painful. If it matters I take Warafin for my mechanical heart. I ice it now and then and try to massage the lump also. Your thoughts on what happened and what I should be aware of going forward thoughts on what happened and what I should be aware of going forward?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have painful lump above the kneecap . Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like infection , bakers cyst , sebaceous cyst , varicose vein , haematoma or lymphadenopathy. If condition doesn't get well then consult orthopedic surgeon , who may order CT scan or MRI of knee along with physical examination . Doctor may prescribe antibiotics , anti inflammatory or may recommend surgical excision of cyst . Doctor may also drain the hematoma . I would suggest you to apply warm compresses , keep your leg elevated , take proper rest and take ibuprofen or acetaminophen for pain .

Hope your concern has been resolved.
