Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I went to see my family doctor because I thought I had arthritis in my left hand, specifically, my thumb. There is small lump at the base of my thumb, it is painful. I have difficulty grasping things, it is painful when I pull my thumb back slightly and sometimes it pops at the first knuckle when bend it. Is that arthritis?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Shraran 's Response
if it is only on your thumb and if you are having symptoms recently arthritis is unlikely, thumb base won't be affected alone in common.the pain may be an acute(simple/recent) condition which is treatable,so you need to get an xray and meet an othopedician once to look over your condition,no need to worry.it could be ganglion too ,which is treatable .
