General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and welcome.

If the shape of the knee joint or bone in he region (patella) has changed then this could be arthritic changes, changes associated with serum acid levels, osteophytes, etc. An x- ray of the region will be required and if there are any changes related to the ligaments of support in the region then your doctor may even order an arthroscopic evaluation. A few blood investigations like CRP, RA factor, ESR, serum uric acid, etc; will be required.

Best wishes.
