Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I woke up and when I moved my neck I noticed I had neck pain, as the day went pass it got worse and on my back right hand side of my neck there is something, its like a lump though I m not 100% sure. When I look in the mirror my left hand side of neck is lower than the right hand side. The right hand side is the one with the problem. I m not sure what to do about it.
Painful lump on neck can be due to trauma, infection or muscle pull leading to spasm during sleep. As you have not mentioned about any injury. It is likely due to a muscle spasm during sleep. It will take couple of days for it to go away. Make sure you take sufficient rest and use mild painkillers like paracetamol for relief.
Although, if after couple of days you don't see any improvement in it and develop other symptoms like fever, nausea, vomiting then I suggest get it examined by your doctor. A couple of blood tests and imaging tests might be needed to be done to know the exact underlying cause. Depending on that further instructions will be given by your doctor.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Manisha Auradkar, General & Family Physician
