What Causes Painful Lump On The Back Of Head?

Am 25years old,on frinday I woke up and felt a painful small lump on my left side back of head,today the pain increased,sometimes turning my head to left side is painful also,and its causing headache.What might be the cause?What am I supposed to do?Thank you.

Hi,

Lump on the back of head may be due to many reasons like cysts, fatty growth, inflamed hair follicles and bony spur etc. However, suddenly appearing painful lump (As is present in your case) is more likely due to inflammation of hair follicle. This may be treated by hot and cold compresses to relieve pain and swelling. Some OTC analgesic may also be taken. If still the pain and swelling persists, you may need a course of some antibiotic under guidance of your doctor, if infection is present/suspected.
