What Causes Painful Lump Under The Armpit?

I have an oval shaped lump directly under my armpit. It is tender and bothersome. It has been hurting since last night. I am worried so I made a doctors appointment. Is this something I should be concerned about and are there any suggestions for something I can take or do to ease the minor pain?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
It is most likely a tender axillary lymph node. Lymph nodes are small glands, located in different parts of the body & function as our immune system. Once a lymph node becomes infected, it becomes tender, hot & enlarged. Each group of lymph nodes drain a specific area which needs to be examined by a physician to look for infection.
Hope this information helps.
